THE FAMILY TREE OF WILLIAM DAINES OF BRISTOL AND NORFOLK

William Daines b. 1617 England m. Phillis BEMBRIGG (7/28/1636) d. 1686/7ch= 3 William Daines of Norfolk, Va {Apparently two William Daines were living in the same proxmity.... More research is needed in this area,} I am grateful to James Deans, who authored articles about the aforementioned William Daines and bought this information to light.

1Anne Daines b.? d.? m. Samuel Barrington Shute, Daines and Barrington

1Sir William Daines b. abt. 1647, d. 1724 (will probated 17 Sept. 1724) Canaterbury, England of Norfolk, VA m. Elizabeth Harris ch=3

As early as October 1668, Sir William Daines was engaged in the shipping business and owned several ships The Lyon and the Betty, and perhaps the Cornwall. He was knighted  on November 28, 1694.  He was Sheriff of Bristol and seems allied to the lineage of the Jeffries/Hunt/Cooke/Ford Atwood/Batchelder/Rogers/French families in England.  He was married to Elizabeth and had a son Thomas Dean, mariner, who also had issue. See: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~dorchesterdeans/FAMHIST/fh01/fh01_001.htm#P2178F858 Dorchester Deanes

2Mary Daines  b. ? m. John Hoffler and inherited the James River plantation ch=??

2Anne Daines m. John Shute, who was Lord Barrington

3William Wildman Barrington, born 15 January 1717 died in 1793

     2Thomas Daines m. Elizabeth Haskett

1Elizabeth Daines m. Lewis Conner Lewis CONNOR & Elizabeth Daynes (DAINES) ch=

2Ann Conner; also m. Anthony Lawson

William Hammond was aboard The Lyon in 1630. William Hammond

From James Deans' information relative to this family and some inconsistencies regarding the above family tree abstract.

William Daynes-b 1617 per Norfolk Court records.
William/Phillis marriage 1636 per St Dunstan Stepney, England records. William a mariner.
William Daynes at Norfolk 1645 per VA immigration records.
William Daynes references at Norfolk court too numerous to mention 1645-1687
William Deanes will 1686/7 Norfolk Court record probably filed by his lawyer with William too sick to check name spelling. There is a separate record of the estate of William Daynes donating law books to some library in 1686/1687 thus the will is clearly of William Daynes.

William Daines (later Sir) minor child reference first in Captain Harris court record. This William likely son of Thomas Daynes but no proof as yet.
Captain Harris returns to England with this William while likely still a minor and sells some property back in Norfolk.
Sir William files POA May 1710 to transfer some land inherited from Captain Harris to Elizabeth Daynes(Lawson) at that time.
Sir William becomes sheriff 1694? and later MP for Bristol all well documented.
Sir William dies and will probated 9/17/1724 in Canterbury, England

William Daines son of William Daynes in 1686/7 will of William Deanes(Daynes)
Several court records of William Daines at the Norfolk court as a lawyer as was his father
William Daines will 1717 showing  Norfolk County as well as some Nansemond land at the time of the will almost certainly inherited from William Daynes that he devises primarily to two male children one the Norfolk land and the other the Nansemond land. Will includes my likely multiGGGF John Daines who got some pewter plate per will(dad not happy with him?).

These are the main three from 1645 to 1717 in Norfolk Colony.
